Transport Minister Xiao Zhenxiang said that he has instructed the Land Transport Authority to release more information to the public during the investigation of the MRT disruption, to explain the measures taken, and to enhance communication in a timely manner. This will help people better understand the challenges and know that the authorities are doing their utmost to enhance the safety and reliability of the MRT network.
In a post on social media, Xiao Zhenxiang said that over the past few months, the local MRT network has experienced several service disruptions, causing inconvenience to many passengers. He understands the public's frustration, especially given the high reliability of the trains in previous years.
The minister noted that the train system is highly complex, and even with redundancy mechanisms in place, problems can still occur. When a service disruption happens, the authorities' top priority is to ensure that passengers can safely continue their journey, whether by bus or alternative MRT routes, to reach their destinations as quickly as possible. The investigation into the cause of the disruption will follow.
Xiao Zhenxiang said that he has directed the Land Transport Authority to work with MRT operators to accelerate asset upgrades, jointly conduct technical audits of key railway components, and improve the service restoration process.
He added that the current MRT network now offers more alternative routes for passengers, making the system more resilient. The authorities will continue to strengthen the system, learn from each incident, and work with a team spirit to provide better service to passengers.
