Students from many local universities will be able to exchange their preferential fare cards for new

Starting from early September this year, students in primary schools, middle schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute can choose to replace their concession fare cards with the SimplyGo concession card.
Transport Minister Xu Fangda posted on the social networking site Facebook that based on feedback from parents and students, after switching to the new E-Link discount card, parents can recharge their children's E-Link cards directly through the app.
Xu Fangda said that after discussing this proposal with the Ministry of Education, the Land Transport Authority decided to allow students to choose whether to change their fare cards. The authorities will share more details with parents and students later.
In addition, some parents suggested that the authorities extend the validity period of student discount fare cards so that they can continue to use the discount cards during the transition period after graduation. Xu Fangda believes that this is a good suggestion that can benefit graduates who are waiting to continue their studies.
The minister also said that the authorities may also include graduates who are about to enter social work and provide them with short-term funding before starting work.
The minister said he has asked the Public Transport Council to consider the proposal when it reviews fares this year, and the council has agreed to do so.
