Monkeypox confirmed outside Africa. A Filipino man with no recent travel history was diagnosed with monkeypox, the first case in the Philippines this year, according to the Philippines Department of Health. As monkeypox has become a global public health emergency in recent days, Malaysia and Indonesia have announced increased health monitoring for incoming travelers.

The statement also advises people who are at risk of infection and have symptoms such as rashes and blisters to go to a nearby clinic for examination immediately and avoid contact with others.

Indonesia also announced that it will strengthen the health screening program for incoming travelers to prevent the infiltration of monkeypox virus.

The authorities also plan to integrate 12 laboratories across the country into the same network to speed up the detection of the virus.

On the other hand, after Pakistan reported an imported confirmed case last Friday, the authorities designated a hospital in Peshawar as an isolation facility for suspected cases of monkeypox the next day.

Since the World Health Organization announced last week that monkeypox constitutes a public health emergency of global concern, Pakistan has found at least three people infected with the monkeypox virus.

This is the first case in the Philippines since December last year, and it is not yet clear what strain the patient was infected with.

The Philippine Department of Health said the patient is a 33-year-old man who had not traveled abroad recently. He had a fever about a week ago, and then a rash appeared on multiple parts of his body.

The man has been tested and is currently awaiting genetic sequencing results to determine which type of strain he is infected with.

This is the tenth confirmed case of monkeypox in the Philippines since the first case appeared in July 2022.

The World Health Organization once again listed monkeypox as a "global public health emergency" last week after an outbreak of monkeypox in Africa.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health issued a statement yesterday announcing that inbound travelers from countries that have reported cases of monkeypox must monitor their health every day for at least 21 days.
