The Ministry of Transport will launch an activity next month to collect public feedback on improving bus safety.

To enhance the safety of passengers, bus drivers and other road users, the government set up a tripartite working group last month to conduct the relevant review, which is expected to be completed early next year.

Minister of State for Transport Murali, who leads the group, said at an event held by the Land Transport Authority that the group will also explore ways to improve the welfare of bus captains. Passengers can also play a role in helping captains pay more attention to road conditions.

Murali said that passengers can signal in advance when they are at the bus stop that they want to get on the bus, or ring the bell in advance on the bus to let the captain know that they want to get off. In addition, passengers should also pay attention to safety, such as not leaving their seats while the bus is moving, and being careful when getting on and off the bus, especially double-decker buses.

Murali also said that the government will continue to work closely with public transport operators and employees, listen to public opinions, and review relevant regulations to further enhance the safety of the system.
