Thai police smashed a telecom fraud den and arrested a 19-year-old Chinese man

A 19-year-old Chinese man was arrested by the police in Bangkok, Thailand for suspected telecommunications fraud.
According to the World Journal, the Bangkok police and the Immigration Bureau recently launched an investigation into telecommunications fraud in the local area and arrested a 19-year-old Chinese man named MingHong Tan who was suspected of using a SIM card fraud device (SIM BOX).
According to the police, the man entered Thailand on a student visa and installed a SIM BOX device in a rented room in Bangkok to conduct fraudulent activities using telephone adapters from abroad, suspected of violating relevant Thai laws and regulations. The man initially denied participating in criminal activities during the investigation, claiming that he was only an agent who assisted Chinese people in renting houses. However, the police further investigated through the rental records and found that he had ten other room rental contracts in his name, suspecting that they were related to telecommunications fraud activities. The police said that such devices are often used as transit tools by criminal gangs. The suspects would make calls from abroad through the SIM BOX, and the victim's mobile phone would display a Thai phone number, thereby misleading the victim. Law enforcement officers conducted searches at two locations involved in telecommunications fraud based on a search warrant issued by the court. The police seized eight sets of new SIM BOX devices, two network routers, a hub, a computer for monitoring, eight LAN phone devices and a blue suitcase at the scene.
