Demand for festive gifts has surged by as much as 20 % this year, and hamper specialists say bespoke Christmas baskets are leading the trend. Yet corporate budgets are tighter: many firms now opt for smaller, more refined packages.
From Tanglin to Marine Parade, Siglap to Bukit Timah, shoppers are tailoring hampers to the recipient’s exact neighbourhood, creating one-of-a-kind presents.
“Companies are gifting to fewer people, but choosing pricier items,” says Melvin Teo, general manager of a beverage wholesaler. “Every customer has seen the usual options and asks, ‘What’s new?’ Our team brainstorms together—stickers and name-engraving are common, so we go further: gold ink, gold leaf, making each bottle unique.”
Vendors assemble hampers to fit any budget; the cheapest bundle starts at S$30. Corporate clients typically spend S$50–80 per hamper and order 50–100 units, while individuals pay S$100–150.
In recent years buyers have shifted away from identical mega-hampers, taking time to pick gifts that carry personal meaning.
“The biggest trend this year is custom scents,” says Serena Lim, founder of a fragrance house. “Clients want a signature aroma for their brand; recipients remember them every time they smell it. It feels exclusive and delightful.”
Hamper makers report overall Christmas orders up 10–20 % year-on-year, but inflation, freight and labour costs have pushed prices about 5–10 % higher than last season.
