NASA: China is strengthening its space capabilities and the government must remain vigilant
NASA has warned that the U.S. government must remain vigilant as China is building up its space capabilities and using civilian projects to conceal military targets.
When NASA Administrator Nielsen testified before the House Appropriations Committee on the 2025 fiscal year budget, he said that China has made extraordinary progress, especially in the past 10 years, but they are very secretive. Authorities believe that many of China's so-called civilian space programs are actually military programs that the United States and China have begun to compete with.
Nelson hopes China will wake up and understand that civilian space is used for peaceful purposes, but he said he has not yet seen China demonstrate this. He also believes that the United States should land on the moon again before China, lest the other party get there first and exclude the United States.
However, Nielsen is confident that the United States will not lose its global advantage in space exploration. But he also warned that China has indeed invested a lot of money, and there is still a lot of room for growth in the budget, so the United States had better not relax.
